In the coastal suburb of Thirroul, this front entrance courtyard transformation balances relaxation with practical family functionality. The owners sought a space where parents could unwind while accommodating their beach-loving children's lifestyle. The design response creates a tropical sanctuary with large Heliconia plantings that cleverly enclose the space and conceal an existing wall. Dark green understory foliage establishes depth through layering, creating a sense of discovery and seclusion. The space now serves as a private retreat for relaxation and an afternoon gin and tonic surrounded by tropical plantings, with the view completed by a glimpse of the dramatic escarpment backdrop. An outdoor shower provides a practical touch for sandy returns from the beach, blending utility with beauty in this coastal family oasis.
